A group of seventeen British gymnasts, including three Olympians, took legal action against the British Gymnastics Association for alleged “systematic physical and psychological abuse” by coaches with children from 6 / years as victims.
According to the gymnasts, the research done by the British gymnastics association is taking too long. In a letter, they demand answers, apologies, compensation and improved guidelines for coaches.
Jennifer Pinches, a gymnast who helped the British squad reach the Nations Cup at the London 2012 Olympic Games, says British Gymnastics has for too long “put podiums more important than people.”
She co-heads the organization Gymnasts for Change. “Your heart breaks when you face the truth, when you know what abuse we have suffered. This is just the beginning of the many changes we want to see,” said Pinches.
