Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal was not surprised in the first round of the French Open title fight.
The 34-year-old titleholder settled in three sets with Australian Alexei Popyrin, 13 years younger.
Nadal still had to use all his qualities in the third set to shake off the number 63 in the world: 6-3 6-2 7-6 (3). The party lasted almost 2.5 hours.
Both players already met each other earlier this year at the clay tournament in Madrid. Nadal won that game in the eighth-finals easily with two times 6-3.
Nadal won his favourite grand slam tournament in Paris thirteen times. The third-seeded Spaniard will play in the second round against his French peer Richard Gasquet, the number 53 in the world.
