Former Formula 1 driver Carlos Reutemann has died at the age of 79 in Sante Fe, Argentina. His daughter Cora Reutemann announced this on Twitter. Reutemann had been ill for some time.
The Argentinian raced in Formula 1 from 1972 to 1982. He raced for the Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams teams. Reutemann won a total of 12 victories. He started on pole position six times.
In 1981 he led the World Cup for some time but had to leave the overall victory with a 1 point difference to Nelson Piquet.
After his career, he entered politics. He was twice governor of the province of Santa Fe, and he was also a senator in the Argentine parliament.
