Leipzig-Halle airport in eastern Germany is the first airport in Germany to process more flights during a month compared to before the corona crisis.
German air traffic control registered 6,693 aircraft movements in August, which was 5 percent more than in August 2019.
Leipzig-Halle benefited both from the increasing number of passenger flights in the important holiday month and the continued busyness of cargo flights.
Partly due to the logistics hub of parcel delivery company DHL, Leipzig-Halle is the second busiest airport in Germany in terms of cargo flights, after Frankfurt.
The airport has suffered less from the corona crisis and associated cancellations compared to other airports. For example, in Frankfurt, there were 28,882 take-offs and landings in August. That is almost two thirds less compared to August 2019.
