Pope Francis on Thursday called for more education about dealing with minors in the Catholic Church.
“This process of change urgently requires further training for all those who bear pedagogical responsibility and work with minors – in church, society, family,” it said in a statement Thursday, following a conference on child protection in Rome.
According to the pope, it is the only way to eradicate the “culture of death” that involves abuse.
Francis also made significant changes to canon law last summer to better tackle sexual abuse in the church. The church has been criticized for years for not tackling sexual abuse hard enough.
